Singapore General Election

Choosing a government is about a ventilation of national programmes, issues, policy options. Citizens have a right to be persuaded, consulted and then to make their choice. I think that it is the citizens' choice to vote for their candidates they wanted. The vote should be a personal choice and not to be done by force. Therefore, I agree that citizens' votes should be make confidential.

All of the candidates have put in a lot of effort in order attract more votes and to let citizens know that they can benefits them in future. The People's Action Party (PAP) candidates go around to their respective neighborhoods and give talks and campaign speeches to the citizens to convince voters why they should get their vote. They also distribute brochures to some houses and make house-to-house canvassing.

The Workers' Party especially has recruited some earnest young people with backgrounds not unlike the PAP's. They are better organized then the past, more focused in target-setting and quite adept at drawing converts to their cause. They also give talks to neighborhoods' citizens on the way they will benefits them in future. Posters with photos of the different candidates in The Worker's Party are pasted on lamppost at different areas in Singapore.

The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has secured 37 of the 84 parliamentary seats in seven uncontested Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) on Nomination Day.

The opposition parties, including the Workers' Party (WP), the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) and the Singapore Democratic Party, have fielded 47 candidates in all the nine Single Member Constituencies and the other seven of the 14 GRCs to challenge the PAP.

Nearly 2.16 million of Singapore's some 4 million population, including more than 1,000 who have registered overseas, are now eligible to vote in the coming election. Of them, about 1.22 million residing in the 16 contested constituencies will go to vote on May 6. I think that this is good news for the Singaporean oversea as they can now vote in the coming election.
